Hats of nuns!

Wimple it, just a little bit
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam is a lovely place to visit, with so many great sights – the canals, the tulip market, the cheese and the staggeringly amazing Van Gogh Museum.

I had been playing with an idea for tops of buildings in Dunkirk and this theme came up that I thought I’d save for Amsterdam.

Wimples, in case you didn’t know, are part of a nun’s clothing. They are the bit at the top around her face. Some of them – particularly in France, Belgium and the Netherlands – can be quite expressive.

Think of nuns in a 1950s black and white French film and you’ll get the idea. Particularly a Mother Superior…

Some of these rooflines are practical, most are not. It’s all for a bit of fun.

For the last images, I was reminded of how some Dutch people I’ve met talk like they’re from a 1970s American TV sitcom. So, I included, “Yo”, “Coolio” and “Grooviness” in the prompt. Along with “Flying wimples”.
